It's wine o'clock for A.I.
Deep Planet wants to help the world adapt to climate change, starting with vineyards
Hello there,
Today’s startup might be just what you need if you enjoy a glass of wine. Deep Planet is working to help vineyards counter the effects of global heating on an industry worth hundreds of billions of dollars annually. Scroll down to read all about them. Not yet a paying member? There’s a seven-day free trial available to read the whole thing.
I keep hearing stories about startups who have been featured in PreSeed Now getting inbound interest from multiple investors who discovered them via this newsletter. It’s fantastically encouraging to see.
Just a note that while coming out on Tuesdays and Thursdays means PreSeed Now is usually immune to UK public holidays, this week’s Jubilee four-day weekend means the newsletter will be taking a break this Thursday.
I’m not being lazy, I just want to make sure you all read the thing! Emails arriving at the start of a long weekend have a habit of getting buried by the time the next working day arrives. Everything will be back to normal on Tuesday when the schedule will revert to normal.
Look out for the first monthly roundup for all subscribers in your inbox tomorrow, though. And as ever, drop me a line if you have any feedback, input or questions.

Deep Planet wants to help the world adapt to climate change, starting with vineyards
In a world where the climate is changing alarmingly quickly, one sector that needs to adapt particularly swiftly is agriculture.
And considering the global wine market was valued at $326.6 billion for 2020 alone (with others pegging it at as much as $450 billion)—all of that value depending on the health of the humble, delicate grape—it’s little surprise that vineyards want to keep on top of the latest environmental challenges.
Deep Planet is a startup out of Oxfordshire that offers A.I.-powered tools to help vineyard operators make better decisions.
”Even a small change in when the time is right for harvest makes an impact on the crops,” says COO and co-founder Sushma Shankar. “Our mission is to harness A.I. for the benefit of the planet, and we’re pioneering a full-stack, scalable solution that uses satellite imagery and machine learning and data from the ground such as sensors to solve some of the biggest problems here”.
